Springfield - Week 61

Buenos Dias!!!

I feel like I just emailed you.  I just lose track of time now. Every week is pretty much the same haha.

Monday 7/6:  We played Racquetball this morning.  We all got hit today.  President Lowery got hit in the head with the ball by Elder Johanson, I got hit in the back twice, Elder Allen got hit in the head, and Elder Johanson got hit in the back and stomach.  It was a battlefield haha.  We had a Zone activity at the park to play volleyball in the sand but the sand was extremely hot so we moved it to the church which I was bummed.  It was still a lot of fun.  We taught the A family again today and for some reason they just didn't seem interested.  We were super bummed but we are going back and hopefully all will be good.

Tuesday 7/7:  Elders Allen and Johanson went to Ashland today for a big Zone Leader conference with President Russell.  So I got to stay here with Elders Hale and Whitney.  The day was a blast.  This morning we went to this huge food warehouse and helped make 2500 lunches.  Our job was to cut and bag oranges for 4 hours.  It was intense haha.  So since they didn't have a car we walked everywhere!  It was a good workout especially because it was hot.  So crazy story,  as we were walking a car went by us and someone yelled out, "Hi Elders",  we just thought it was a member but then it turned out to be Elder Stotts who returned home 4 weeks ago.  So we met up with him and his parents at Shari's and they bought us shakes which was awesome!  It was cool being able to see him again.  What are the odds.  Tonight we had dinner with the Saxmans.  They are a super cool older couple in 1st Ward.  Gregorio Salgado picked me up tonight.  He got lost so it took him a while to find me haha. Him and I went to teach M and C.  They have been taking the lessons for 3 years now.  They just need to get baptized!  Hopefully soon.  Then Elder Allen and Johanson picked me back up tonight.  It's good to be back with them.

Wednesday 7/8:  Had lunch at the Salgados store again.  It's a tradition for every Wednesday.  The afternoon sucked today.  Everyone didn't want to talk with us and were just grumpy today.  We did go meet J who is a youth pastor at a local church here and he's super awesome!  Elder Johanson already knew him.  He's probably the most humble guy I've met.  He'd be a great young men's president or Bishop. We had dinner with the Runo family at a pizza place.  It was pretty good.  Tonight Elder Johanson and I went and visited J.  His older sister, P wants to start coming to church as well.  We taught them the 10 commandments using our hands.  Then we walked them down to mutual and they had a blast.  I just want to help those kids because their older siblings are just thugs so I'm hoping if they come to church they won't go down that path.  We also saw D and L tonight.  D is still trying to quit chewing and drinking.

Thursday 7/9:  This day was an adventure.  We had a surprise apartment check this morning by Sisters Christensen.  We won cinnamon rolls which were bomb!  After weekly planning we did some scouting for a good mountain view for our zone training meeting tomorrow.  On the way back down the hill through the neighborhood we had a blind corner that a car was parked on our side so we stopped and another car came through the gap towards us.  We didn't have anywhere to move so they just side swiped our reared and jacked the whole side of their car up.  Freaking dumb drivers.  She had a brand new Hyundai Genesis.  Two 2015 cars are now messed up.  So that was a fun thing to deal with.  A police officer came and handled the situation.  Lots of paper work later all is good.  Glad it wasn't our fault.  We had dinner with the Bishop Blair today.  He's super cool. He likes hiking and told us about some sweet hikes.  Tonight we taught R and W. They are brothers around 10 and 12.  They are set for baptism on August 1st.  We are super stoked!  W called Elder Allen Megamind.  He said he should paint himself blue.  Haha poor a Elder Allen.  We were also able to teach the L family.  They are such a great family.  They just need to come to church.

Friday 7/10:  ZTM was sweet today!  We learned about Moroni and the title of liberty.  So for an object lesson I tore a white shirt (wasn't mine) and put it on a pole.  It was pretty funny.  We also drove to a big hill and learned about how we are watchmen and we need to warn the people.  Elder Hales came with Elder Allen and I on exchanges today.  He's such a great guy.  We went to Chicken Bonz for lunch.  It was unlimited wings and I ate 30!  I was so stuffed and sick to my stomach afterwards.  Most likely wouldn't do it again haha.  The rest of the day was pretty slow.  We did help Gregorio Salgado move apartments.  That was a blast.  Marty Clayton was there and was just talking up a storm and cracking jokes.  What a funny dude.

Saturday 7/11:  We exchanged back today.  Today was a just a weird day.  All three of us were in goofy moods haha.  We talked to a ton of people and we should have a good amount of people at church tomorrow.  We taught J and put him on date for baptism on the 8th of August.  He's doing very well.  So tonight we were invited to a 50th year wedding anniversary for a couple all the way in Santa Clara.  They were going to have a few Hispanic families there and wanted us to be there to translate and talk with them.  They were a super cool family. They are from Mexico City.  Had a great time there with them.

Sunday 7/12:  Went to church in Santa Clara and Springfield today so we had church from 9 till 2.  Lots of church in one day.  One of our members slept in who normally picks up a few of our investigators, so during Sacrament we walked to their house and walked back to church.  We had 5 investigators at church today.  The talks and lessons today were awesome as well.  Sister Booren talked about how one time her two year old son fell in the bath tub and somehow put the plug in and turned the water on.  The water was boiling hot so as it slowly filled up her son started to scream.  She came running to the rescue and grabbed him out of the hot water and pulled him to safety.  She related this story to our Savior Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.  If it wasn't for our Savior we would be drowning in that hot water.  He pulled us to safety and rescued us.  We taught J again today.  He didn't come to church so we wanted to check up on him.  He didn't know he could come to church late haha.  We taught V while her 3 year old son played Wi boxing on the tv.  It was hilarious to watch.  Tonight as we were thinking of who to visit, R came to mind.  He isn't doing too good.  He's back to smoking and drinking.  He's working like 70 hours a week so he's just a mess.  We had a really good lesson so we are hoping that will help him.

So this week I studied a ton about the 10 commandments as well as all the other commandments and about their importance.  I've come to really know that if we just follow the commandments all is well.  God knows what is best for us, he knows what we need to do, we just need to trust him.  We just need to DO IT.

30 But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not. (Mosiah 4)

5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes
7 ¶Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways. (Haggai 1)

We need to check ourselves and see who we really are.  At church someone gave a talk about building a true foundation.  Many of us are so caught up in our outward appearance that we neglect our inwards self.  We don't nurture our soul as we should.  We need to make sure our foundation on the inside in strong and firm.  Which means we begin with the basics like keeping the commandments, reading the scriptures, praying, and coming to church.  From there we have the basic foundation and we continue to build upon it.  It's important that we evaluate ourselves and fix that which needs fixing.  This is the time to prepare to meet God.  We should check ourselves and consider our ways.

I love you all!

Love,
Elder Perrine
