Corvallis - Week 43

Buenas Dias!

Monday:  So today we had a Zone Activity at the Haslams'.  To start it off we sang the EFY Medley to her since she does so much for us and because she also has two sons out on their missions right now.  We had a blast playing nerf war, capture the flag, pool (not water, but with pool sticks haha), drums, fooseball, football, tennis, basketball, basically they have a sweet house where you can do just about anything.  The ultimate hang out spot.  She also bought us American Dream Pizza which was awesome.  We all pigged out on pizza, chips, soda, and candy.  There was so much food.  It was a blast being there and we really appreciated it.  The Haslams are awesome!  So today we also had to get our car all ready for inspections tomorrow so we had fun cleaning all of it out and making it all pretty.  We had dinner tonight with the Grimmers who I thought were awkward at first but then turned out to be super cool and funny.  They all know a million jokes so that's basically all that went on for the whole night haha.

Tuesday:  This morning we woke up at 5:45 and quickly got ready so we could be on the road by 7.  We had a good drive there.  Just wish we didn't have a Tiwi haha.  Zone Conference was filled with ton of great things.  We learned a lot about the Priesthood, Prayer, The Atonement and lots more.  It was also the Kleinmans last Zone Conference.  It's going to be sad to see Sister Kleinman leave because she's super nice and awesome, Elder Kleinman on the other hand is the one in charge of the cars and is also grumpy.  The Dixons are replacing them and they seem super nice and awesome so I'm super excited.  We also got our new IPads today.  32 gigs!  So awesome.  I love it already and it's going to be an awesome tool to know how because I'll be able to download just about everything haha.

Wednesday:  This morning I had a great study about Pondering the Path of Thy Feet. It was a talk given in the October 2014 General Conference by President Thomas S. Monson.  He talked about how we need to make sure we are walking as Christ walked and that we are always following his example.  We also went and worked at Community Outreach today making a bunch of food boxes for people that come in. We spent a good amount of time today downloading a lot of stuff.  There's just so much to download haha.  Another super cool thing is they now have a weather app and Duolingo which is a Language learning app.  It's awesome!  I'm totally going to learn a ton now.  I wish I had his app a lot sooner.  We also watched a lot of the District Episodes tonight.  They talked a lot about the importance of planning and that if we plan we will be successful.

Thursday:  So today we did a lot of contacting trying to find referrals, potentials and what nots.  We had some really good luck today talking to people.  Brother Morrison came with us to see the Zavaleta family.  Cool family who were being taught by the missionaries but it's been some time since then.  But it seems like they are ready again so I'm super excited.  We had dinner with the Beaton family in the Philomath ward and they are really strange. Haha.  We did some finding after dinner and nobody was home that we needed to talk to but as we were walking back to the car we passed a lady who was probably in her 60's sitting on her front porch watching the sunset.  We passed by and said hi. As I was about to get in the car I had the prompting to go back and talk with her. I really didn't want to but I decided to follow the prompting and went back even though she was white haha.  Turns out she's a super nice old lady who has a lot of faith in God.  We talked to her about the Plan of Salvation and she seemed to really enjoy it.  I learned tonight to listen to the spirit and follow the promptings.  Don't second guess yourself.

Friday:  This morning Elder Thompson had training.  After that we exchanged and Elder Hales came with me to my area.  We had a great day and actually contacted a ton of people.  We talked to this one lady named Carina and she was chill.  She told us if someone isn't answering the door we should yell at them to open it up because Jesus knows you're there.  She might of been a little crazy too haha.  We did a lot of walking and talking to peeps.

Saturday:   We went back to help Renee with her house.  Elder Ricks and I laid down laminate flooring which is a pain but we did a really good job.  Rene is just cookoo so it's annoying working around her because she has no clue what she is doing so we just do what it takes to get stuff done.  We had dinner with the Workmans in Philomath.  They have like 8 kids so it was a packed party house.  It was insane but they are all cool.  Tonight we also went to help out at the Cold Men's Shelter.  One guy came in with a messed up shoulder so we had to call the paramedics.  Firefighters showed up which was super cool so I was able to witness the whole thing go down which was awesome.  The stretch bed thing they use is intense.  Cool stuff. Oh and it's finally raining again.  Oregon is back.  It's been sunny forever which sucked haha.

Sunday:   Church was great today.  A youth from the Philomath ward spoke in our sacrament meeting today about the importance of the Sacrament.  He's taking Spanish in high school right now and did a really good job.  A high councilor also spoke about the importance of hymns and singing.  He said that the hymns need to be used more often in Sacrament talks and lessons during church.  The rest of church went very well.  We had a good meeting after church today with the leaders of the group.  They are super missionary tuned and really want to help us out anyway they can.  I love Spanish groups and branches because everyone there is missionary tuned because they are there because they want the Spanish group to grow or they are recent converts and want to help others see he truth.  Spanish is the best.  Most white members in wards are just there because they go to church nothing else to it and you can really see the difference.  We had dinner with the Islas family like always except Hermano Hernandez and Hermano Amaton came to do their hometeaching so they joined us as well and shared the spiritual message for the night ha.  It was nice just relaxing and not doing the teaching.

So in that talk Ponder the path of thy feet that I read this week some main parts that stuck out to me were...

As we look to Jesus as our Exemplar and as we follow in His footsteps, we can return safely to our Heavenly Father to live with Him forever.
One woman, each time she related experiences she had during a visit to the Holy Land, would exclaim, “I walked where Jesus walked!”
She had been in the vicinity where Jesus lived and taught. Perhaps she stood on a rock on which He had once stood or looked at a mountain range He had once gazed upon. The experiences, in and of themselves, were thrilling to her; but physically walking where Jesus walked is less important than walking as He walked. Emulating His actions and following His example are far more important than trying to retrace the remnants of the trails He traversed in mortality.

We read in Proverbs the admonition, “Ponder the path of thy feet.” As we do, we will have the faith, even the desire, to walk the path which Jesus walked. We will have no doubt that we are on a path which our Father would have us follow. The Savior’s example provides a framework for everything that we do, and His words provide an unfailing guide. His path will take us safely home

There's many more awesome things in the talk so read it!

Love you all,
Elder Perrine
