Medford - Week 26 (Transfers)

Hola Hola hola,

So on P-Day it was a zone P-Day where we play fun games as a zone, so we played ultimate frisbee and some basketball.  It was super fun to just play a bunch of sports and relax a bit.

Tuesday we helped out at St. Vinnys like always and helped out the less fortunate.  It's always a great feeling helping those who need it.  We did some work today and also contacted a bunch of empty houses.  It was great haha.  Had dinner with the Baleros who totally remind me of Grandpa & Grandma Perrine.  They are a awesome family.

Wednesday was my 20th Birthday!  I'm getting old now.  I think I need some new teeth, maybe a new hip and some knee replacements hahaha.  It was just a great day.  Helped out at St. Vinnys again.  Every Tuesday and Wednesday.  It was also Nadine's birthday as well.  Lady who sends the pics and was in the pic as well.  (Receive texts pics every once a while from her.  Special treat!)  She's super awesome!  Her sister was also there this time visiting Nadine for her birthday.  She lives in Roseville and is an active member is Roseville 3rd ward.  She is a sweet lady as well.  Got my package today as well full of decorations and all sorts of things haha.  I blew up all the balloons and put them all around me while Elder Thacker took a picture.  Pretty funny stuff.  The decorations and balloons made it feel like a real birthday haha.  (Sent birthday decorations and had family/friends write on 20 balloons wishing him a happy birthday.)  Had dinner with the Clantons and they surprised me with the wontons and pudding.  (So grateful Bro. Clanton made Kevin some of his favorite foods.  Loved it.)  It smelt just like back home.  It was weird haha.  The food was great and also thank you guys for the Birthday video haha.  You guys sounded like you were dying! Haha.  It was funny watching Jesse look around and laugh at you guys.  (Put together a quick video singing him happy birthday.  Emily and Brian were sick so they just sat there without smiling.  Oh, well.  He seemed to like it anyway)  They baked me a cake as well and sang happy birthday to me.  It was an awesome birthday.  Tell everyone thank you for the messages on the balloons.  Emily's letter was awesome as well.  Meant a lot.  I'm surprised she remembered bowling because I totally forgot until I read that haha.  The GPS is awesome! It's nice having one now!  Thank you guys!  And the gift cards are perfect as well.  Now I can eat out. :). I bought some pizza for lunch using the gift card.  Yummy!

Thursday was a great day.  This day I was able to go to the Temple with a couple other missionaries, President Coffman, Ana Garcia and her son JJ.  Ana is the mom of "The Kids Family" in Klamath Falls who is was super close to.  JJ got his endowments taken out and invited me to go in with him.  He leaves for his mission December 3rd to Dallas Texas.  He is a great kid.  It's amazing to see how he has changed in just the few months I've known him. His whole family are converts and he is the first one to go on a mission in his family as well as the Spanish Branch so it is a big deal.  Super awesome!  The Temple is always an amazing experience but even better this time watching two recent converts going through the Temple.  The Gospel can really change lives.  I felt blessed being able to be a part of this amazing experience.  Also had a great lesson with F. and D. who are progressing slowly.  They won't really commit to too many things so not really sure what to do with them.  We will just keep working with them though.  It's really frustrating teaching people who just don't understand the importance of this Gospel.  Drives me crazy haha.

Friday was another Big Highlight of my mission.  J. entered into the waters of Baptism and followed the example of our Savior.  It was an amazing experience to be a part of.  He has come a long way these past weeks that I've known him and have been teaching him.  He is such a solid guy.  It was great to see how the Gospel can change someone's life. You see the gospel change so many lives out here on the Mission.  It's a great feeling.  I also had a great district meeting this day.  We focused a lot on Missionaries working with members and the importance of this.  The investigators that I have
seen progress and get baptized is because the members either introduced the investigators to the missionaries or they were a big part in their conversion because they cared and wanted to help these
people.  Missionaries can't do it all on our own.  It's the job of the members to find people for the missionaries to teach because those are the people who will actually progress.  An old thing that we use to do and are now starting to do it again is asking the members, "The Whom Do You Know..." questions, like "whom do you know who has recently had a loved one pass away, or just had a baby, or is going through a difficult time, or has a struggling teen, or neighbors who have just moved in".  We ask these questions to get the members to start thinking of those around them that could be blessed by the Gospel.  So start thinking! Haha

Saturday we got transfer calls.  I seem to not be able to keep comps that I like with me for very long. Haha. Elder Thacker is being transferred to Santa Clara.  I'm getting Elder Allen again.  He's cool.  I'm excited to see how we do.  Saturday morning the Klamath Falls Branch went to the Temple so I was able to go see Coffman, Galindo, and all the youth.  They were super excited to see me.  It's nice seeing old friends.  We also worked in the Thrift store at St. Vincent's.  Always a blast.  They love having young people do all the work for them haha.

Sunday we had J.'s confirmation.  That was another cool experience to be a part of.  He is so happy now and I can't wait to see him grow in the Gospel.  We also went with a member to see someone in the hospital that was in a huge car accident and gave him a blessing.  He was in the ICU in really bad shape.  No bueno.  It's sad to see Thacker leave but getting Elder Allen should be fun.

Hope you guys have an amazing week!

Love you all!!!

Love,
Elder Perrine

Medford - Week 25

Hola Madre y Padre,

Another great week.

Saint Vinnys is always fun!  Nadine a less active lady that sent you that pic of us.  She's super awesome. She made me cookies for my bday. Yummy cookies. She has the same bday as I do haha.

Seeing the Williams was fun!  It was good talking with him.  He's a good guy. Thank you for all the food.  Food is the best gift haha. It's nice having lots of food.

Had J.'s baptism interview that's last week.  Everything is good for this Friday for his baptism now.  Super exciting.  F. and D. are still progressing as well.  Hopefully they will have a baptismal
date as well soon.

Helped out in Eagle Point with a service project.  Helped Hermano Clanton out.  They had a huge Dutch ovens competition.  Bomb food! The town reminds me of Placerville.  Super cool little town.  I want to start cooking in Dutch ovens haha.

Had a yummy breakfast at the Wrights Sunday morning.  Bomb food.  He's our branch mission leader.  They are white people but he speaks Spanish.  We always have good deep doctrine conversations with him.  He's super awesome.  Smart guy.

Had stake conference on Sunday as well.  All of Oregon had conference. They did a broadcasting with Elder Anderson and President Monson.  It was cool listening to them speak again.  It was weird that it was state wide.

Forgot to have you tell Janine thanks for the Halloween package and also the ward for the Halloween cards.  It's nice getting stuff like that.

So I'm studies this week this popped out to me.

10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?

13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.

15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. John 13:10-17

So since Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up, tis the season.  We need to look for those opportunities to serve one another.  Christ set that example for us by washing the feet of the Apostles but we don't literally have to wash someone's feet but we need to provide service for others and invite them to learn more of the Gospel.

Well love you guys!

Hope you have an amazing week!

Love,
Elder Perrine

Medford - Week 24

Hola Madre!

Another fun week in the mission field.

On Monday we had dinner with the Clantons like always but this time they had some pumpkins to carve.  It was so much fun.  We made some cool pumpkins.  Mine is super funny looking.

Worked at Saint Vinnys a couple days again this week.  Lots of people came to eat so we were super busy!

Went on exchanges this week with one of my ZLs, Elder Harmon.  He is from Utah of course.  Haha.  He's a pretty cool guy.  Went to Ashland for the day.  Cool but weird city.

J. is still progressing and is going to be baptized the 14th of  November.  He is an awesome guy.  D. y F. and their daughter are progressing towards baptism as well.  We also have a lady named V. and her two kids working towards baptism.  The work is progressing and it's really awesome to see people come unto Christ.

Had ZTM this last week.  Zone training meeting.  The Russell's came for this one and taught us a lot of good stuff on how we can be better missionaries.  The Russell's are awesome people!

Halloween didn't feel like Halloween haha.  I felt like a grown up not doing anything haha.  We had to be in our apartment by 6 so we just studied and chilled.

Can't believe it's November already!  My Birthday is coming up.  I'm going to be old haha.  (He turns 20 on November 12th.  He feels old.  How do you think I feel.)

Had a fun service project working on a members roof.  It's just garbage so we had to do some work and then put this huge tarp over the whole thing.  Service is fun!

On Sunday we forgot time went back an hour so we arrived to church an hour early and were wondering where everyone was haha.  We thought church was canceled until we realized the time changed haha.  Good stuff.  (Haha.  Dorks)

The mission is a blast and I'm loving the work.  (Happy Happy)

I love this scripture.

41 But that ye have patience, and bear with those afflictions, with a firm hope that ye shall one day rest from all your afflictions. (Alma 34)

Even though sometimes on our life we feel like we can't press forward we know that God never gives us what we can't handle.  If we trust in him and have patience we can conquer anything.  It's an amazing
promise that one day we can rest from our afflictions.

It's good to hear how everything is going back home.  Sounds extremely crazy like always.

I did pass out the bags of candy.  Everyone that got one were super happy and said thank you.  (I made Halloween bags full of candy and little toys for Kevin to hand out to kids in his Branch)

I'm still taking care of myself.  Trying to stay in shape hahaha.  I have about 15 meds left.  (Just making sure he is taking care of himself and taking his meds.)

Hope you guys have an amazing week!

Love you guys very much!

Love,
Elder Perrine

Medford - Week 23

Hola Madre,

This week was another great week working out in the Lords vineyard.

So the days are always full of adventures.  If you aren't having fun you aren't doing it right.

So Monday we always have dinner with the Clanton family.  He had us eat a red Habernero which was surprisingly not hot at all.  It was a trick haha.  Elder Thacker doesn't like hot stuff so he was scared to eat it but I just ate it all.  Pretty funny.  For P-Day we also played basketball and chilled at the Mall for a couple hours.  It's awesome that there is a Mall here!

Tuesday morning we always help in St. Vinnys kitchen feeding the poor and needy.  We meet some really interesting people there.  The kitchen is a party though because some cool peeps help out.  We also work there Wednesday mornings as well.

Got to see Quinn and Derek.  That was a little weird seeing them haha. But it was really cool.  Thank you for the awesome package of tons of stuff haha.  I have food for days now.  Those cinnamon rolls are gone already.  Too good!  Thank you a bunch.

Helped out at a soccer thing that we were invited to.  We played  soccer with a bunch of little kids who were learning.  It was really fun to play some soccer and help little kids as well.

Had some good lessons with J. who is still working towards getting baptized Nov. 15.  He is so ready for baptism.  Super awesome guy!

Also working with D. y F.  They are starting to progress and love having us over now.

One night we had to drive all the way to Ashland.  Our area is huge! But we had a lesson down there at 8pm and she wanted this bath tub from her backyard out into her house.  That was a nightmare and Elder Thacker almost lost his leg haha.  We didn't get home till late.  Fun night.

The work in this area is really starting to pick up.  It's super  awesome to see how people change once they start learning about the Gospel.  The light of Christ really shows in them.

I don't know if I have shared this scripture with you, but it is one of my favorite scriptures about missionary work.

12 For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the
truth because they know not where to find it--

13 Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven--

14 These should then be attended to with great earnestness. (D&C 123)

There are lots of people who are in the darkness and need someone to show them the light. That is our duty as members to show our brothers and sisters the truth.

No he didn't even punch me that hard.  Just wasn't expecting it haha.  (I told Derek to give Kevin a punch from me.  It meant more of a love tap, but apparently he really decked him the arm. Ha!)

Hope you have an amazing week!

Love you guys!

Love,
Elder Perrine

 Great pic of Kevin.  Love!
Sent Kevin homemade sopa and anything I could find that was orange for Halloween.  Looks like they enjoyed it. :)
